Garda drug testing of drivers

Drive safely this bank holiday weekend.

If you are in a serious car collision, the Gardaí must test you for drugs in your system at the roadside.

You must stay at the roadside until the test shows either a presence or absence of drugs in your system. This can take up to 30 minutes. Gardaí also test drivers for alcohol at the scene of serious collisions.
